What is MedLite C6 Q-switch Nd:YAG LASER ?

The Lifestyle Clinic uses a powerful, medical grade MedLite C6 – Q switched Nd: YAG laser, which is considered the ‘gold standard’ of lasers for the treatment of tattoo removal. The same laser also works effectively on birthmarks and age spots. A full consultation and skin analysis with the doctor is required first to determine if the type of birthmark or age spot can be removed effectively.

How it Works

The laser directs short, quick pulses of light to specific areas of skin such as tattoos and birthmarks. It does this without damaging the skin around the targeted area.

The MedLite C6 utilises four wavelengths to target coloured tattoo ink, which is by far more effective than system’s which try to remove all colours using only one wavelength. All ink colours can be removed, although green and yellow are more difficult to remove. By using multiple wavelengths we can selectively target stubborn colours and thus achieve a better end result. This system is more effective on black and coloured inks than any other laser currently on the market.

The waves of energy (laser light) effectively shatter the tattoo ink into particle fragments that are gradually removed by the body’s immune system. The MedLite C6 removes tattoos with minimal risk of scarring or skin pigment changes.

FAQ

1What to Expect?

Your Doctor will first do a thorough skin examination and inform you of the effectiveness of the MedLite C6 in your specific case.

The laser is a bit uncomfortable, but not painful. Numbing cream can be used if necessary. After your session with the MedLite C6 laser, you will probably feel like you have sunburn. There may be bruising, redness, and scabbing. With proper care after the treatment, the area will usually be healed within a week.

The number of treatments will depend on the kind and colour of ink used, as well as the amount of coverage.

We recommend at least 6 weeks between treatments as longer intervals allow more fade.

You can expect for up to 95% of the tattoo to be faded, but more specific information can be given for each tattoo depending on its colour(s).

2Can the MedLite C6 Remove All Tattoo Ink Colours?

A combination of wavelengths enables Back 2 Bare the ability to treat any tattoo or any colour in the colour range.

The 1064 nm wavelength treats dark ink tattoos including black, grey, dark blue, brown and purple and these colours respond well to the laser and normally are completely removed.

The 532nm wavelength treats red, yellow and orange inks

The 585nm wavelength treats pale blue and purple and

The 650nm wavelength treats more challenging colours including sky blue and green. These colours the most difficult to remove, and additional treatments are needed to produce significant fading.

Coloured tattoos are harder to remove, and in particular pastel colours (orange, yellow, powder blue and pink) often resemble skin pigments and are difficult to completely remove due to the wavelength of the laser being able to directly target these colours.

3Precautions to take prior to treatment and aftercare?

Avoid sun exposure at least two weeks before treatment. Wait for tanned skin to fade before beginning treatment.

After treatment, do not expose the area treated to sun, and always wear SPF 50+ on the area if you go outside.
